SPEAKING and MEDIATION

In this section you will find some links and videos. Some of these videos are real examples of students speaking at the "FCE" and "CAE" oral examination (Cambridge Exams), while others show teachers commenting on the production or the expected performance at the exam.

These videos can help you visualize the situation of the candidates during the exam. As you know, the tasks for you (at the EOI) are "a bit different" (you will NOT be asked to describe pictures, for instance) but, in general, I believe the clips "picture the moment" very clearly. I hope they prove useful to you.

PARTS OF THE EXAM (SCHOOL). Both B2 and C1 exams are very much alike:

Introduction. Personal information.

First part: MEDIATION: The candidate will have two minutes to transfer the information provided. This information could be an audio text or a piece of writing (graphics, maps, notice board...). The candidate will have to transfer the information taking into account the context and the needs of the target listener.

The second part, the MONOLOGUE, is based on a text. Every candidate will have twenty minutes to read a text and write some guide lines about it for their presentations. Then, the candidates will have 4-5 minutes to give their presentation appropriately.

The third part: INTERACTION. Both candidates will be allowed one minute to read some information about the task. In this part you will be asked to start and maintain a conversation on the topic for about 5-6 minutes, using the information from the text. The candidates are expected to actively take part in the discussion with relevant, meaningful and adequate production.

Good luck!
